All The Essentials for your Backyard Campout

All The Essentials for your Backyard Campout

Your local campgrounds might not be opening this summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the great outdoors. Set up camp in your backyard with the following essential items for the ultimate staycation experience.

Tarp or Tent

No camping experience is complete without the rustle of plastic tarps and tents. Protect yourself from the rain and other elements by using a waterproof tarp. Or, splurge for a luxury tent, with all the bells and whistles.

Bug Spray

The bugs are sure to be buzzing this summer, so be sure to apply bug repellent throughout the day and especially right before sleep. The last thing you want is to wake up covered in red, itchy bug bites.

You don’t want to twist your ankle in the dark when you need to run back to the house late at night. Bring a flashlight so you can see where you’re going. Plus, they come in handy for making shadow puppets or as props for ghost stories.

What’s camping without a campfire? Of course, you should never just strike a match on your lawn. Invest in a fire pit or use a barbecue so you can contain the flames safely and responsibly. You’ll need them for our last camping essential…

Marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers

If you forget everything else on this list, make sure to at least have the ingredients to make s’mores. To roast marshmallows, use barbecue skewers or fetch some sticks from the woods. If you don’t have access to a fire, you can still enjoy this timeless camping tradition by smushing your ingredients between two graham crackers.

Happy trails!
